    What to send us

You do not need a 3D file. Any one of these is enough to get started.

    • A 3D fileSTL, STEP, OBJ or 3MF
    • A photo of the broken partTwo or three angles, with a ruler or coin for scale
    • Measurements, or the part itselfRough sizes are a fine place to start
    • Or just describe itWhat it is, what it fits and what it has to do

    Why people call us

The problems we get asked to solve

    The part is discontinued

Or only sold as part of an expensive assembly. If it is plastic and you still have the old one, it can often be printed again.

No 3D file, and no idea how to get one

You do not need one. Send a photo or the part itself and we will measure it and draw it up.

Not sure it can even be printed

Ask first. We will tell you whether it will be strong enough, or whether printing is the wrong answer.

Too few for a mould, too many to make by hand

Small batches print with no tooling cost, and every part comes from the same file.

A jig that would cost a fortune to machine

Drill guides, spacers and holding fixtures can be printed without tying up a machinist or a machine.

Online services that print whatever you send

We look at the file before it is printed and tell you if a wall is too thin or a clip is going to snap.

    Waiting weeks for a part

You get a realistic timescale with the quote, before anything is printed.

    How it works

From broken part to new part

    Step 01

    Send what you have

A file, a photo, some measurements or just a description. Tell us how many you need.

    Step 02

A straight answer and a quote

Whether it can be printed, whether it will be strong enough, and a written price before anything is made.

    Step 03

    Drawn up and printed

With no file, we model it from your part or photo. Then it is printed and checked.

    Step 04

    Collected or posted

Fit it and try it. The file is kept, so a tweak or a repeat order is quick.

    Honest limits

When printing is the wrong answer

We would rather tell you now than print something that will not do the job. These are better made another way.

    • Parts that need machined accuracyVery tight tolerances are a machining job.
    • Structural or load-bearing partsIn vehicles or in buildings.
    • Food-contact, medical or safety-critical partsPrinted plastic is the wrong material for these.
    • Volumes in the thousandsAt that scale a mould tool works out cheaper.

    What Cambridge customers say

5 Google rating from 3 reviews

Fantastic service from start to finish. Professional, friendly and really responsive throughout the whole process. They helped me redesign my idea and turn it into a finished 3D printed product, keeping me updated along the way. I’m really pleased with the final result and wouldn’t hesitate to use 3D Guru again. Highly recommend!

Wow, just received a bread board made by 3dgure. This is a surprise 30th wedding anniversary gift for my wife and the result is absolutely brilliant. The detail is far better than I imagined it would be, I can actually tell who the subjects are on the board. Placed an order and it was done within 3 days and the price is spot on too. I have attached photos of the items which do not do them justice, my photography skills are not perfect, the finished items look far better in real life. Also had made a mobile phone holder which holds both my mobiles, I can charge them without having to leave them lying around on my desk and has the added bonus of having my name on it too. Extremely happy with the finished result. Would not hesitate to use 3dguru again and fully recommend.

Fantastic company! They had exactly what I was looking for with exceptional shipping time and everything was delivered in more that suitable packaging over very happy and always on the lookout to purchase more! They made me a bespoke bracket for my central heating control exactly as I imagined. The options are limitless if you don’t ask you don’t get and I got exactly what I was looking for!

    About us

    3D Printing Cambridge

3D Printing Cambridge provides professional 3D printing services to individuals, businesses, designers and engineers across the city and surrounding areas. We work with a wide range of materials and technologies to turn your ideas into physical objects, whether you need a one-off prototype or a short production run.

What sets us apart is our focus on practical results rather than jargon. Cambridge is home to a remarkable mix of research institutions, tech start-ups, product designers and hobbyists, and we work with all of them. We understand that a PhD student needs a precise component printed overnight just as much as a product company needs a polished presentation model by Friday. We tailor the process to your timeline and budget.

    Questions

    3D printing questions, answered plainly

What should I budget for a 3D printed replacement part in Cambridge?
Most single replacement parts cost between 15 and 80 pounds, depending on size, the material required, and whether we need to create the design from scratch. Simpler items such as small brackets or fixings sit at the lower end, while larger or more complex components with tight tolerances cost more. We always confirm pricing before we start any work.
What am I likely to pay for a rapid prototype in Cambridge?
A single prototype component's cost depends on its size, the level of detail required, and the complexity of the geometry. Simpler parts cost less than highly complex ones. We quote per project after reviewing your files.
Is 3D printing an expensive way to replace a car part?
For one-off or small quantities it is usually the most cost-effective option available, particularly when the original part is discontinued or only available on long back-order at inflated prices. Most individual printed car parts cost between 20 and 120 pounds, which compares favourably with sourcing genuine old-stock parts through specialist dealers. The price depends on the size of the part and the material required.
How is 3D printed tooling priced compared with machined equivalents?
3D printed jigs and fixtures typically cost between 25 and 200 pounds per item, depending on size, complexity, and material. Machined aluminium or steel equivalents for even simple designs usually start at several hundred pounds. For low-volume or frequently revised tooling, printed versions offer a significant cost saving without sacrificing accuracy for most light-to-medium duty applications.
What should I budget for a custom 3D printed bracket in Cambridge?
Most single brackets vary in cost depending on size and complexity. If you need us to draw the design from scratch rather than printing from your own file, we charge for design time on top, which we quote upfront before starting.
Is 3D printing expensive for small production runs?
For small quantities - typically under a few hundred units - 3D printing is usually far cheaper than injection moulding because there are no tooling costs. Unit prices are higher than mass production, but you're not paying for a mould that costs thousands before a single part is made. It makes most sense when you need flexibility, speed, or low volumes.
What am I likely to pay to get a single file printed in Cambridge?
Price is driven mostly by material volume and print time, not design complexity. Send us your file and we'll give you an exact quote, usually within a few hours.
Can you make a replacement part if I only have the broken original and no drawings?
Yes. We can measure and reverse-engineer a broken part to create a new design file. Bring the original in or post it to us and we will assess whether it can be accurately reproduced. This works well for plastic components but may have limitations with very intricate metal originals.
